BioChakotay was born on Chulak. Life growing up for Chakotay was hard, he saw his mother killed by a Jaffa when he was only seven, since then he hated the goa'uld so much...so when he was fifteen, and had the training of a Jaffa Master, he joined the tok'ra to fight against Ra and the supressors of Chulak. Among the tok'ra, he helped eliminate several top goa'ulds, and was sent as a spy in Yu's personal guard. He gathered information, and was injured in his way back to Chulak. He lost his symbiote, and was given Uban. He then faced the Council, who gave him a new responsibility, to go to Earth and aid in Tau'ri relations with the council.
